Imagine stepping directly into a world where every choice you make could spark a revolution, trigger a disaster, or change the course of history. In this course, you aren't just reading Jose Rizal's classic novel, El Filibusterismo—you are diving into a high-stakes simulation where you hold the power to navigate its most intense conflicts. You will explore the dark realities of the late nineteenth-century Philippines under Spanish colonial rule, getting up close and personal with characters like the vengeful Simoun, the grieving Basilio, and the idealistic Isagani. Instead of simply memorizing plot points, you will analyze the heavy pressures of injustice, corruption, and inequality that these characters face, discovering how unequal power structures force everyday people into making nearly impossible choices.

To navigate these intense scenarios, you will set up your very own Decision Journal and learn a powerful, evidence-based process for making tough calls. Across four gripping simulation rounds, you will be put right in the middle of the action: deciding if the students should risk everything for their academy, choosing whether Basilio should join a violent plot, and figuring out what to do during a chaotic, life-or-death wedding crisis. You will learn how to pause, gather textual evidence, weigh the short- and long-term consequences, and defend your final actions. By the time you build your final decision portfolio, you won't just have a deep understanding of Rizal's masterpiece—you will also walk away with real-world skills for making thoughtful, responsible choices whenever you face conflict or injustice in your own life.
