Welcome to "ABI Cognitive Support Governance for NDIS Executive Leaders," a comprehensive online course specifically designed for board members, CEOs, general managers, and quality leads operating within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) presents unique cognitive, behavioral, and functional challenges that require specialized, rights-based governance systems. As an executive leader, your understanding of ABI is critical to ensuring your organization delivers safe, compliant, and deeply individualized support.

This course bridges the gap between clinical understanding and executive oversight. You will explore the foundational concepts of ABI, distinguishing it from other disabilities, and delve into the profound impacts it has on executive functioning, memory, and behavior. We will guide you through the critical frameworks of human rights, supported decision-making, and the Victorian Guardianship and Administration Framework, ensuring your organizational policies empower participants rather than restrict them.

Furthermore, you will learn how to design assessment-led cognitive support plans, build workforce capability through consistent staffing and training, and navigate the complexities of duty of care versus dignity of risk. The curriculum also covers essential compliance requirements under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, managing restrictive practices, and coordinating funding pathways across NDIS, TAC, and WorkSafe Victoria. By the end of this course, you will be equipped to build an ABI-informed culture that champions participant autonomy, mitigates organizational risk, and elevates the standard of care across your services.

Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) presents complex cognitive, behavioral, and functional challenges that require specialized, rights-based support frameworks within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). For executive leaders—including chief executive officers, board members, general managers, and quality leads—ensuring the delivery of safe and effective services necessitates a deep understanding of ABI-informed governance. This course provides a comprehensive examination of the foundational principles of ABI, detailing how cognitive and executive-function changes impact participant autonomy, decision-making, and daily functioning. By establishing a robust governance framework, organizational leaders can mitigate operational risks, prevent the misinterpretation of ABI-related behaviors as deliberate noncompliance, and ensure that support strategies are fundamentally aligned with human rights and the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework.

Throughout this program, executive management will explore the critical intersection of duty of care, dignity of risk, and supported decision-making, particularly within the context of the Victorian Guardianship and Administration framework. The curriculum systematically addresses the design of assessment-led cognitive supports, the cultivation of workforce capability, and the implementation of practical environmental strategies that reduce cognitive load for participants. Furthermore, leaders will analyze their overarching governance responsibilities regarding complex risk management, cross-sector funding partnerships, and strict compliance with restrictive practice regulations. By mastering these elements, executives will be equipped to foster an ABI-informed organizational culture that champions participant choice and control while maintaining rigorous clinical, legal, and operational oversight.
