This overview of theater sound design terminology talks about sound design for musicals and straight plays. I give a brief overview of how a sound design fits a particular environment in which our events take place. What are a theater sound designer's responsibilities? Starting with the actor's voice, through different microphones and traveling through mixers, and amplifiers, and ultimately coming out of powered or passive speakers. We discuss basic design and the signal flow from the mic to the mixer. Then on through the amplifiers, aka, amps, and out to the audience via either powered or passive speakers.
