Chapter ONE:

You are hitting too hard for your skill set. Upgrade your technique but in the meantime, use what you have to win points and games.

You are simply hitting too hard!

I teach lots of very sophisticated, 4.0 plus players, and typically, when they come to me and they start to hit, they just hit the ball way too hard…way beyond their capability to be strategically aggressive.

You want to be aggressive, but you want to be smart in your aggression. 

Here’s the game plan. Work and drill to improve your technique so that you can hit uninhibitedly hard and put the ball in play exactly where you want it. 

Our goal is controlled aggression. 



Chapter TWO:

Treat each game like the treasure it is, warm up like a pro; create a systematic warm up sequence…and sneak a peek!!

Tiger Woods goes to the practice tee and hits with every single club before he actually plays a game.

NBA players warm up for hours before you see them play the game.

Major League Baseball players show up hours early and hit in the batting cage.

Middle aged to senior pickleball players go out on a pickle ball court, hit two or three dinks and say, I'm ready.

When you warm up properly before you actually play a pickleball game, you will improve dramatically and you will beat people, you've been losing to.


Chapter THREE:

Strengthen what works, eliminate one weakness...and drill, baby, drill!!

In order to improve you need to drill as much as you play.

Repetition creates muscle memory and hitting the ball well in the heat of battle requires discipline and practice.

Drill more!

Chapter FOUR:

Change this ONE stroke flaw and beat that loud mouth schmuck you desperately want to beat.

You are bringing the paddle back too far.

It’s a small court.

Power without placement is a waste.

The instinct to go back to go forward is ferocious.

You need to get power while keeping the ball in front of you.


Chapter FIVE:

Proper footwork allows you to drive hard, dink deftly and put balls away. Learn one trick that changes everything.

Your footwork is terrible.

Sorry to say this but if I took you to any court in America, you would see really awful footwork.

Split step, readjust, stay on your toes.
All great strokes, on the bounce and in the air need PROPER separation.

Most PB players change the shot not create the space to hit the right shot.

Chapter Six:

Destroy a Pickleball myth and eliminate 5 unforced errors a game. There’s no crying in baseball and no wrist in Pickleball.

The number one mistake I correct in day one: stop using your wrist.

In general in life the less moving parts, the better.

To create consistency, you need to move the large pieces not the little ones.

In Pickleball that simply means reduce using wrist movement in 95% of your shots.

Chapter Seven:

Hit as hard as you want and hit exactly where you want! The answer is topspin. And here’s, as the Bard suggests, the RUB!

You need more topspin.

When we discovered PB seven years ago, it was a different game at all levels.

A lot of chip and charge, just hit and rush to the NVZ.

But along came younger athletes, tennis players and vastly better equipment!!

And all of a sudden groundstrokes became important.

It’s a small court and keeping the ball in play with aggression requires spin.


Chapter Eight:

You can’t do everything Ben Johns can do but you can model him in one very important way: Get a Two Hander!! I’ve been creating them since 1977, it’s doable and it’s a game changer.

If Ben Johns now has a two hander so should you.

Borg changed my world.

I’ve been teaching two handers since 1977!!

And the concept is simple:

You are hitting a forehand with your non dominant hand. Try it. Drop and hit topspin forehands with your left hand!!

Start slow hit easy and just get the feel for it, slowly!!


Chapter Nine:
